See the difference we make

Our short film shows what life looks like at Addictions North East — the people, the community, and the support that helps people turn their lives around.

Many of our team have lived experience of addiction themselves. That understanding sits at the heart of everything we do.

About Addictions North East

Since 2004, we have been supporting people across the North East to overcome addiction, improve their mental wellbeing, and rebuild their lives.

Based in Seaham, County Durham, we are a registered charity providing recovery housing, counselling, outreach, and community support throughout County Durham, Tyne and Wear, and South Northumberland.

Many of our team have lived experience of addiction and recovery, giving us a unique understanding of the challenges people face and the hope that recovery can bring.

We are an abstinence-based service, supportive of 12-step recovery, and committed to walking alongside each person for as long as they need us.

Why choose Addictions North East

We’re not just another service. Here’s what makes us different.

Frequently asked questions

No. You can contact us directly by phone or email. Family members, friends, GPs and other professionals can also get in touch on your behalf.

Most of our services are funded through housing benefit, local authority funding, or charitable grants — so there’s no cost to you. We also offer private placements for those who want faster access, starting from £40/hour for counselling or from £500/week for residential housing.

Both our supported housing and our counselling require a commitment to abstinence. However, we can help you access detox services first and support you through that process.

We’re based in Seaham, County Durham, but provide services across County Durham, Tyne and Wear, and South Northumberland. We also offer telephone and video counselling for those further afield.

We offer dedicated family and carer support including 1-to-1 support with our counsellors.

We’re a charity, not an NHS service, which means we can offer a more personal, community-based approach. Many of our team have lived experience of addiction themselves. We work alongside NHS services and can help you access them too.
